I was rather taken with Chris Kemps 6" howitzer, so I had to get one too. He got his from Plastic Soldier Company whereas mine is from Battlefield 3D, my preferred resin printer. I guess they are both licenced to use the same file as the models are identical. In fact PSC has a lot of the same stuff as B3D, but B3D has a vastly bigger range overall, just enormous.
Anyway, here it is. A WW1 era 6" howitzer, remounted on a carriage with pneumatic tyres for road haulage.
It is a lovely solid model with nice raised detail. Most importantly for an artillery piece, it is a single piece print, no horrible assembly required! I just love the heft of the tyres, they really give an impression of weight.
The resin is nice and smooth so an inkwash went on OK (on some prints they are so grainy it just soaks in and stains). The gunners are Peter Pig out of my 'British Gunners' bag. They look fairly slim so I presume these are earlier castings, and are in very light equipment, so more suitable for a medium artillery piece. It would be even better if they were bare headed and in shirt sleeves, but hey ho.
I did the gun in a neutral mid brown, maybe SCC2 or some sort of dark desert tan. The gunners are also in a lighter khaki with hessian helmet covers, so this piece is more suitable for the Mediterranean, but at a pinch could fight in NWE.
I bought this specifically to use as 4th Indian Divs attached Corps artillery for my planned Operation Battleaxe game at COW, but sadly I hurt my back and couldn't go. I'm sure it will see action at some point, and at least it will be an alternative to my green 5.5" guns for desert games.
